Excellent show at Kemper Arena last night. I hadn't seen U2 since the Joshua Tree tour in 1987 and was not disappointed.
It was nice to see some changes from the recent setlists (Desire and Angel of Harlem replacing either Wild Honey or In God's Country). Although IGC would have been great, unless my math is off we got two songs instead of one in that exchange! It also was cool to get the bit of When I Look At The World, which apparently had not been performed before.
My wife is a church musician and definitely NOT a rock-and-roll fan, but she had a great time. Her only frustration was that the entire arena sang along to all the songs, and she didn't know them and couldn't join in. This was a "kidnap" date where she didn't know where we were going until we got there, so to keep the surprise I chose not to "indoctrinate" her beforehand.
As for the non-sellout...there are several reasons. One poster mentioned the floor wasn't full...this was true, but after November 11 Ticketmaster sold no more floor seats. The ticket broker industry is also very much alive and well in KC (see media review)and they snapped up close to 100 GA tickets as well. Ticketmaster also pulled their annoying ploy of releasing seats in dribbles from the original sale date until the day of the show...I know at least eight people personally who decided not to go because nothing good was left, only to find out much later (after other commitments were made)that good seats were back on sale. I know this doesn't entirely account for the shortfall, but TM and the brokers between themselves kept a number of people away.
Anyway, it was a great show for those of us who were there. I envy those who still have a show left to see.
