Show was a sell out. I sure as heck wasn't gonna pay Ticketmaster, so I went to the show expecting to get an easy scalped ticket. And so it was; $40 for face value of $132. Philips Arena was packed to the gills; despite this, the band came on to a somewhat tepid reaction. Bono's voice like gangbusters tonight and he keeps his pedantics to a minimum.
Below is the complete set list along with my comments.
-Elevation
-Beautiful Day
-End of the World
-New Years Day
-Out of Control (this was cool because Bono sounded like he did circa 1980 ie. a bit like the current Bono with an infusion of helium.)
-Sunday Bloody Sunday
-Stuck in a Moment
-Kite (preceding the song it was dedicated alternately to Michael Hutchens, George Harrison, Bono's dad, of which the death of Bono said "I still haven't figured that one out yet", and Fred Mills, father of Mike Mills. Both Mills and Stipe were at the show, I saw Stipe afterward and he is sporting a full beard---ole man Kenessey.)
-*My Sweet Lord
-Angel of Harlem (at this point Bono and Edge were at the point of the heart playing acoustic)
-People Get Ready (Bono pulls a young guy from the audience wearing a white skull cap. He had been holding a sign and Bono said: "it pays to advertise." The guy did his best Edge impersonation ie. playing the guitar in an exagerated seesaw style. Bono sings: "People get Ready--we've got a new guitar player.")
-Please
-Bad (this, along with Streets and Bullet, are the real muscular songs of the night and get the biggest responses from the crowd. During the improv portion of Bad, Bono segues into Wild Horses.)
-Wild Horses
-Streets
-I Still Haven't Found
-Pride
SECOND SET
-Bullet (I missed Edge's Isaac Hayes-like "wha whawha wha" guitar style here.)
-Whats Going On
-NY
-One
-brief snippet of Peace on Earth
-Walk On
P.S. The program for this portion of the tour is really bad. Like some leftover from the Pop Tour, but more bland.
