While each U2 show is an incredible experience that surpasses virtually all other rock/pop performances, I felt that the Monday night show in Seattle wasn't nearly as strong as performances on previous tours. (I've seen each tour since 1985.) I was up in the 200-level, though, so my location may have contributed to a ever-so-slighty less-than-phenomenal experience.
The show had many incredible highlights -- not least of which were Electric Co., New Year's Day, Sunday Bloody Sunday, Where the Streets Have No Name, Bullet the Blue Sky (with the Edge's incredible, bluesy solo) -- that left me with a grin that hasn't quite left my face. But there were also quite a few rough moments -- On One, for example, the band struggled pretty obviously to keep it together. And I'm not sure if Bono's voice or the sound system (or both) are to blame, but the vocals seemed weak at many points.
All in all, it was very good -- but certainly not better than the shows supporting All You Can't Leave Behind. I'm heading back tonight with GA seats instead of 200-level -- Maybe that will make all the difference.
One last comment: I was thrilled to see the UN declaration of equality featured on the big screens and to hear Bono talk about global health issues. Some of the older songs were incredibly poignant for today's political situation.
I love this band!
