This was my first concert, I was 18 and agreed to go along with a friend who was into U2. I had never really heard of them, although had listened a couple of times to the boy album and thought Bono's voice was a bit 'tinny' on vinyl (how wrong was I!)
Well I was really blown away when I saw them at the Lyceum. Before they came on someone official came on stage to make some sort of announcement, but the crowd just kept yelling U2, U2..he then gave up and said ok I know you want U2 here they are, and they came.
When they came on the crowd roared and was one heaving mass throughout, people jumping around and swaying.
I was struck by Bono's energy and stage presence, it was electric even though I did not know the songs well, a new experience.
I was soaked in sweat by the end and still buzzing the next day. I have seen U2 at every major tour since then (except the Joshua tree tour unfortunately), including seeing them at wembley twice, cardiff, paris and new meadowlands on the 360 tour. I often now take my wife and two sons (expensive but worth every penny)
An amazing group, and I feel lucky they have been a part of my life.
ps. this review could have been for the concert the night before as they did 2 at the Lyceum that year and I cannot remember which one it was as it was too long ago.
