Well, the first of four shows are now finished and I must say that it will be damn near impossible to match last might's performance. I have seen U2 in the NYC/NJ area for the past 4 tours and this show was without a doubt, the best I have ever seen them.
Bono is a mastermind at getting the crowd to their feet and keeping them there for the duration of the 2 1/2 hour show. Edge deserves a bow for simply being as much a part of the show as Bono was. He never hid from the spotlight and was more than eager to let his voice ring out as loud as his partner - AMAZING HARMONY!!! From the opening of Elevation through the end of Walk On, we were electrified. It is hard ot pick the most memorable moments of this show, but here are a few that are now imbedded in my memory forever:
Bono and the Edge bullfighting at the end of Until the End of the World. I remember when they started doing this during the Outside Broadcast tour, but last night, Bono was the unrelenting bull who would not give up and it was the Edge was just not going to take it sitting down anymore. Edge stabbed his guitar at the kicking bull until he was subdued and won the day!
I agee with everyone else who posted on this site when they said that Where the Street Have No Name is a religious experience. Seeing the red screen come up again with the strobe lighting - WOW!!! The audience has made it clear tat it has now become the new U2 anthem!
Finally, I loved the new interpretation of The Fly. It was so creative and Bono's theatrics only made it that much better by doing two laps around the heart before blowing through the screen behind him. VERY CREATIVE!!!
This will be hard to beat and I am hoping for a few surprises over the next three nights. I hope to post something even more exciting in the near future.
PS - It should also be noted that Bono stated at the end of the show that they haven't yet decided whether or not they will be seeing us again this Fall. (I think that it is VERY likely since half the band has a home here!)
Walk ON!!!!!
