I'm sure I won't say much more here than that which has already been said by all the other inspired fan review writers, so let me join the chorus and tell you that it was truly an amazing experience. U2 knew that when coming to the big bad city, they couldn't play a mediocre, or even great show...nahh, they had to get their show on!! And believe me, it was on that night. I saw them perform upstate in Albany last week, and no doubt the show was excellent, however, Bono was noticeably ill, in his demeanor and his voice. What a difference a few days can make because Bono, Edge, Larry and Adam all sounded incredible Sunday night. Tight as ever.
The New York crowd was so loud that sometimes you couldn't hear Bono singing, and that bespeaks the big mouths of Manhattan. From the opening woooo hooo of Elevation, to the beautiful, subtle Kite, and of course the anthems of Sunday Bloody Sunday, Streets and Pride, U2 was in tip-top form. The crowd didn't seem to get the irony of the Heston/NRA skit, but I think most got the message in Bullet the Blue Sky, which was the most powerful I've ever seen the band perform that song, with Bono yelling like a madman, holding his spotlight/gun. The Fly was great too, as it blasted through the Garden.
Awesome, awesome performance that night. Clearly shows that U2 is the greatest rock band in the world. I'd say they've got the job.
