This was my second U2 show and the second tour I saw them on. They were never as fired up before or since as they were on this tour, the preamble to the massive ZooTV stadium tour that followed in the US, Europe and Australia, lasting up to 1994.

Tickets, as usual, were impossible, and sold out in 23 minutes... I struck out, but my best friend was able to score on the phone.

In my view, this was U2 at their creative and energetic peak. Although I have seen better shows since, this was the best that I have ever seen the band play, and the Edge's performance was magical, ranking him with the best guitarists I have ever seen. (By the way, I can see why he married the Mysterious Ways belly dancer!! What a fox!!!!)

They nailed every single song, and the guitar solo on "Bullet" was enough to make your ears bleed.

The highlight of the show, as usual, was a song you would not expect to be the highlight: In this case, it was "Whose Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses". I mean, breathtaking, goose pimple, hairs-on-the-bak-of-your-neck stuff. "Ultraviolet Love" also took on an unexpected urgency live.

To me, this was Bono in full-blown Jim Morrison mode: Wraparound shades, vinyl clothes. He was lovin' bein' a rock star. The Elvis mirror outfit for "Love is Blindness" was priceless too. I don't know if he's ever had as much fun since.

It was a fitting debut for the songs that make up what is probably their strongest album.

Oh, also, shows are always better at the Garden, especially when you are with your best friend!
