Last night was to be my first and last Vertigo show from the GA perspective and I lucked out. Actually, my girlfriend lucked out- her ticket scanned Vertigo - not mine.
The experience of seeing U2 live is truly defined by the perspective you have - behind the stage, general admission, close or far seats, etc. - each has its advantages and disadvantages. Something has to be said, for example, of seeing the complete production from a distance rather than up close. If you haven't done so yet, try diversifying your perspective.
That being said, the first of five shows at MSG this October was a triumph for the band and for the fans. Keane was excellent. The fans were alive the entire show. The band sounded great. Fast Cars, The First Time, Miss Sarejevo and Crumbs were my favorites, partly because I had never heard them performed live before, partly because they were executed almost flawlessly.
What a night, what a show.
