Count me in as one of those "great show but expected more" posters. This was my second Elevation show (Meadowlands, last show of 1st leg) and fifth overall. Similar to my expectations at the Meadowlands show since it was the final show in the U.S. at the time, I think I just pumped myself up way too much. With all that has happened in NY, I really expected Bono to have alot to say and to really tug at our emotions. During Sunday Bloody Sunday during the interlude between verses, he began his prance around the catwalk to the heavy rhythm beat and I really thought he was going to go all out (similar to the performance on the Rattle & Hum movie) and give us all something to vent at. However, he seemed to stop himself short and gather himself unfortunately. I really think the audience needed that at the time. I know I did. For God's sake, Bono. Get pissed!! On the other hand, he was probably worried that, being a very peaceful man, he would not say the things that NY wanted to hear and chose instead to coddle the American flag the way a parent would hug their child.
Obviously, the music was great as always and there were plenty of fantastic moments, but something that disturbed me even more was the length of the show. Under two hours. I just really thought that was insane, especially for this particular show. Again, I need to temper my expecations for the next tour and maybe I'll come away more fulfilled.
Even with the flaws, they still put on a better show than anyone I've ever seen or expect to see. It's hard to make the non-U2 or even casual U2 fan understand the experience unless they actually attend.
