Is anyone else getting a little frustrated and bored with the very predictable and over-produced set list and show? Listen, I love this band like life itself- they have been a friend for 15 years and have helped friendships together but after my 5th show at $150+ a pop and being on the 2nd US go-around you would think they would take the time to learn some new songs and mix it up a little. Even the speeches and the acts like the Bono/Edge End of the World battle are the same. Is this U2 The Broadway Musical or is this a concert?
I would never have dreamed I world say this but even I am not excited about hearing Bad or Pride live. Where is a 1 Tree Hill, Unforgettable Fire, Zooropa, God Will Send his Angels, Sort of Homecoming, God 2, Heartland, Like a Song, Red Hill???? Anything, I'll take anything non-standard for the masses right now. I think Larry fell asleep a few times- check out his previous comments on Rattle and Hum movie- he gets bored quick. Is it laziness? Is it the easy money? Is it the massive pop fan base that needs to be satisfied every night? I'm confused.
I know I'm going to get slammed or these comments but this band runs through my blood and I am used to expecting a lot from them- I'm not the only one with this view. Bottom Line: U2, those songs, the energy, the emotion etc are a 9 even on the worst night. I love them and will always support them for keeping music alive in these dark days of N'Sync and rap but the trouble is the shows could be a 20 every night and making a bit of history rather than a greatest hits standardized production. We need spontaneous jams, set lists, and more true focus on the music- not "The Big Idea"
They should take a page from Springs teen- 15 consecutive night in NY/NJ and not a single set list even remotely resembling another night- put it to you this way: He certainly doesn't end every show with Born in the USA.
Anyway, still a huge fan, these guys are The Beatles of our generation but I am frustrated and done with this tour.
