well every band has its fanatics, and i think many were left feeling quite empty in ny so far. first off, 1hr 45min doesnt cut it. this isnt 1987(although it sure felt like it the last two nights). U2 has always been about progressing. every album they do is their instant new favorite. but only 3 songs performed from the 90's last night. wow, that made about half the crowd very happy. but then again, that half is easily pleased. and i guess ny is so special(im a new yorker myself) that it gets bad everynight, while all the other multiple cities get a rotation with all i want is you. (which was on the printed set list, but scratched prior to the show) and i think "bad" sums up this leg of the tour. new album and 80's greatest hits. "bad" slams on the breaks at 5 min and then the classic line of "40" is sung. what happened to the real "bad". laziness. U2 has packed it in this leg, dumping many songs so they dont have to rehearse them for such a short tour.
maybe providence will change them when hordes of fanatics show up for larry's birthday and halloween and the suits of ny disappear and irish flags appear. when its not about saying the right thing in ny, when its about the band again, not a city. the classic baltimore show of a week ago, seems so distant now.
