Thank you U2. Bono thanked the audience Thursday night for changing him. I want to thank U2 for changing me through their music.
I want to say that I'm grateful.
I'm grateful that I got to see at least one U2 show this time around.
I'm grateful that I got to hear New Year's Day, Sunday Bloody Sunday, Pride, Kite, New York, One, Walk On and every song U2 played that night. They may not have meant much to some in the audience, but they meant everything to me. Singing those songs with the band and the audience, after Sept. 11th, I truly understood what those words meant in those songs.
I'm grateful that my brother's name was not one of those on the screen during "One." (He was working in the World Trade Center when the second plane hit above his office on the 71st floor and thankfully made it out alive.)
I'm grateful that I was celebrating with U2 that night instead of mourning.
I'm grateful to U2 ---- Bono, Edge, Adam, and Larry. Thank you for doing what you do and sharing your talent and music with us. Thank you for giving me, a fan and a New Yorker, a wonderful night of celebration and healing.
I'm not complaining. After Sept. 11th, I understand that I don't have the right to.
