Simply one of the great U2 shows of all time - alongside, I would imagine, Popmart Sarajevo (and Santiago?), the Zoo and JT tours in Dublin, Live Aid, Red Rocks.
Never has a city been more ready to out-sing Bono on Angel of Harlem and Sunday Bloody Sunday. Never has the Edge's guitar been more biting on Bullet the Blue Sky. Bad hasn't sound that goood in years. Please gets reinvented acoutically (as Bono read the lyrics of a cheatsheet). Bono's preaching is atypically concise, and his altered lyrics salute New Yorkers while mixing the religious with secular. A wedding proposal during ISHFWILF. A tribute to the victims and heroes of Sept. 11 extends through the second encore and beyond. Members of FDNY dancing on stage to a rousing Out of Control. New York sung for a revitalized New York. Never has the band appeared more humbled by an audience/city's response.
And never has an audience been more ready to receive the gratitude and pour it back on the band a hundredfold.
