Last night's show was my first elevation show and I thought it was amazing, even from the crappy seats I had behind the stage. Bono's voice was spot-on and the band was really tight. I was impressed with their showmanship and felt I got my money's worth. Anyway, here's a list of my pros and cons:
Pros:
- The lighting was absolutely fantastic. From the view I had high up, the lack of personal contact was made up for by the light display, making the show really come alive.
- Bono added a little extra to the end of Kite, repeating the last verses of the song while playing acoustic guitar. It was a nice touch, I thought.
- The Ground Beneath Her Feet was awesome. You could feel the passion in that song, even if nobody knew the words. It was chilling.
- Bad-Streets-Pride. Perfect combination of tunes, definitely the best part of the show. SImply amazing.
Cons:
- Didn't play The Fly, Disco or Stay. These were songs I wanted to see the most, but alas, it was not to be. On the same note, it really sucks that the band isn't playing more POP and Zooropa. There are some great tunes on those albums that I think would have made the show much more compelling.
- New York was pretty dull. In my opinion, that song should only be played in New York and New York ONLY.
- Although I enjoyed them, some songs need to be spiced up a little. I enjoyed hearing Sunday Bloody Sunday, Desire, and With or Without You, but I felt both songs were pretty watered down. Sure, they were fun to listen to and sing along with, but the fire just wasn't there. It'd be better if they dropped these songs from the set list and left room for some rarer material or more improvisation.
Overall the show was awesome. Probably one of the best I've ever seen. I know I was a little dissappointed, but that's probably just because I'm a U2 obsessive and anything they don't do perfectly I get fussy over. Without a doubt, though, they are awesome and I hope they come back in the fall. Anyway, thanks for reading... Adios!
