What a great night! Tonight my husband and I had the privilege of sharing U2 with our 10 year old son as his first concert! The only thing better than the band's performance was watching how our son sang along at the top of his voice...his eyes sparkling, and a smile on his face!
The energy of this show was electrifying. It seemed at times that Bono was not "in best voice", but there were still magical moments vocally... particularly in SYCMIOYO and Miss Sarajevo. He is still the best of showmen, and even if his voice wasn't at its strongest, it was still awesome to hear him.
We were really impressed with the lighting, the spontenaeity of many of the sing-alongs, and the involvement of the crowd. Some people complain about the sing-alongs...I disagree with them. I believe the band wants to bring the crowd along with them, and to make the crowd feel they are truly a part of the show. U2 do this better than any other group I've seen. You leave a U2 concert feeling inspired, uplifted, and a part of something much bigger than yourself; other concerts leave you feeling you were simply entertained.
"Bad" was the song that made my husband a fan when he attended his first U2 concert at the Capital Center 20 years ago. Though we were doubtful that it would be included tonight, we were thrilled to hear it performed. It was a most fitting ending to this fantastic show.
We can't wait for the Atlanta and Charlotte shows where we have floor tickets. Hopefully one of the trips will include a trip into the ellipse.
Thank you, U2, for a wonderful evening, and most of all for giving us something wonderful to share as a family!
