The Pittsburgh concert was the third I have seen on this tour and the Best! This could be due to the fact that I finally made it into the heart and was directly next to Bono for the majority of the night. But really, I think that there was something extra in the place last night. Something larger.
Many of the other reviews have talked about the big things. I would just like to mention some of the little things that I loved -and which made it especially fun. Bono was very talkative (which we all love) and really interacted with the crowd.
1. At one point (during New York), he played "Rock, Paper, Scissors" (or whatever it is called) with a fan. Bono won (and made a face) and then the guy won with scissors over Bono's paper, and Bono grabbed his hand and acted like it was hurt/cut.
2. Bono took a gold bracelet from a fan and held it up like a halo. (You know that smug Fly smile.)
3. When Bono first said hello, he turned around and waved to the people seated behind the stage. He then pointed up to an empty section and said, "I'm sorry. We couldn't sell those seats. The view of Larry's arse just wasn't good enough."
4. When Larry came out to the tip of the heart, he whispered something in Bono's ear and made Bono laugh out loud and mouth, "Tonight??" At the time, I thought it was something to do with Adam, but it could have been anything.
5. Edge was indeed wearing a Viva Zapata shirt. And Bono introduced him as "the original Zapatista himself."
6. Bono danced A LOT during Mysterious Ways. Some terrific moves.
7. Bono took someone's sunglasses, wore them for a song (I think Mysterious Ways?) and then brought them back to dance with a girl and put them on her. He kissed her hand twice and then smiled back at her while she screamed with her friends.
8. The decision to play Stay was indeed last minute. Bono grabbed Edge as he was about to walk off and shouted, "Let's do Stay."
9. Bono had some great things to say before Stay. I am paraphrasing horribly, but it was something like, "This is from when we went all arty on you. We were in Berlin and put out two incredible records: Achtung Baby and Zooropa." Then we got full of everything we were doin' and floated on up to the clouds. This song was written while we were in the clouds. There are some incredible things to be found up there."
For some reason, I seemed to be in a prime spot for hearing everything Bono said -possibly under a speaker? I was inside the heart at the tip.
I decided at the last moment to go to this concert and am SO glad I did because it was overpowering and truly incredible. I will never forget the feeling of screaming and jumping with the rest of the crowd as we sang "EL-EV-A-TION!!" Can't wait until DC!
