4th U2 show I've seen (ZooTV in Las Vegas, Pop in Las Vegas and LA, Elevation in NYC after 9/11) and well...this show was good but not great. Bono, for the most part, seemed to be going through the motions. Even kind of rushing to get to the next song. However, the rest of the band was on fire.
Highlights:
City to Vertigo. Wow. I grabbed the sleeve of the guy next to me, that I did not know, and said,
'that was f**king unbelievable!!!' Blew me away.
Edge was jamming like a 12-year-old boy who just learned to play the guitar. This guy was going crazy. Jumping, arm swinging, the whole deal. Considering he is normally quite reserved, this was a really nice treat.
Wild Horses was nice (maybe impromptu?). Even through they had the string issue, 2 guitars later, they finised the song. Was really nice.
Elvis (old, fat version) on stage.
Bono talking about Edge coming from the future on a spaceship and landing in the North Side of the Dublin. Don't know if he does that every show, but it was nice.
Believe it or not, the crowd. Usually Vegas crowds are kind of weak, too many VIP's who don't know how to party unless there are hookers and blow involved. But this night, I was plesantly surprised. Way to go Vegas. We'll get there.
The sound was excellent as was the stage show. Nice job Willy.
Room for improvement:
Love and Peace and Bullet almost put the audience to sleep, really. Pride was also quite weak.
Overall, the show was good. Personally, I think they need to go away and 'dream it all up again,' hang it up or take pride in being the U2 jukebox (Rolling Stones). I think, if they want to remain exciting (to other people besides us crazy fans) they need to axe most of their crew and start from scratch. They need some fresh blood, new ideas. Usually this doesn't happen with artists who are comfortable and have families. Don't get me wrong, I love the guys and will buy their stuff as long as they make it. but this tour and album is, for the most part, rehashed stuff from the past. Still a nice time though and better than most of the stuff out there.
Oh yeah, special thanks to the d**khead who puked all over the seat next to him just before U2 started. Nice way to waste $200. I really enjoyed smelling your barf throughout the 2+ hour concert.
