What a night!! I first saw U2 supporting Joe Jackson at the Hammersmith Palais c1979/80 and thought they were pants! The WAR album converted me to the cause and I've been a huge fan ever since. I saw them at the old Arms Park stadium in Cardiff around 1992/3 and that was a spectacular over the top extravagant show.
Last night in Cardiff was probably the ultimate stadium show - the quality of everything (except the merchandising service) was fantastic:
great venue, great crowd and the greatest band in the world playing their greatest songs - what more could you ask for? The band were on top form and seemed to really appreciate the passion of the crowd. For such a huge venue, it almost seemed intimate at times!
One point about ticket prices - we had superb seats with completely unrestricted views in the middle tier - they couldn't have been any better. They were priced at £65. I've seen complaints of people with more expensive seats having their views obstructed by speaker stacks - I would have been gutted if that had been me. It shouldn't be allowed to happen and those people shoul d get a partial refund in my opinion.
In conclusion - I would have to think carefully about going to a future U2 show as last night was so good, it would be hard to match, let alone better it!
