I'm speechless. I can now die happy that i've seen the best concert that i probably ever will anywhere. U2 was just sensational. im gonna get right down to business and break down each song.....i was in the heart all night (after a lot of hassle) and i was mainly in front of adam for the night. but the heart has so much room to dance around....anyways:
ELEVATION - the best opener in years. what an attention getter. the guys were energetic, especially bono as usual.....this song just rocks.
BEAUTIFUL DAY- honestly quite sick of this great song because of constant radio play, but i quickly forget that when they play it live. great crowd reception.
END OF THE WORLD- now they're really getting into it......the edge and bono doing their matador thing on the catwalk......all us hardcores know about it, it never gets tiring.
DISCOTHEQUE/STARING AT THE SUN -nice to hear, cuz they didn't play it in TO. i like the way they re-worked it, but i think it was better on popmart because they had the whole lemon thing.....and they jammed it out at the end. this one segued into staring at the sun with just guitar and bono singing, then it ended. still great though.
MYSTERIOUS WAYS - great song, i noticed they take the keyboards out now, which i like a lot better. ....i got inches from bono's hand on the right side of the catwalk, instead he walked a few feet over, lied down, grabbed some girl's hand, and literally starting licking and kissing it all over....i was right there looking at his face....he really looked like he was getting off on it......anyways great song, they played it early again as they did when i saw the 2nd toronto show.
STUCK IN A MOMENT- pretty standard, bono gets real emotional during this song...my personal fav from the new album.
KITE - just beautiful. it looked like bono was about to cry. he said its about losing someone you love or care about......this song has a great feel to it.
GONE - 1st highlight of the night for me. i heard it in TO (i had 3rd level there and it was awesome) but about 100000000 times better when you're up front. Bono yelled "Hutch!!! Hutch!!!" as they introed it (in reference to michael hutchence i assume) and they ripped this song apart. so emotional at the end......"I'll be UUUUUPPPP with the sun!!!!" just incredible.
NEW YORK- very, very, very, underrated song. it was much better here than in TO 2 nights before, but the crowd still has a hard time getting into it. the record doesn't do this song any justice, you have to hear it live to appreciate it.
OUT OF CONTROL - once again amazing. i just love how they brought this one back, it still rocks, and it was one of the best songs of the night.
BLOODY SUNDAY/GET UP STAND UP - up to now the best crowd pleaser....i loved hearing it. but it seems out of place for some reason. its as if the song has lost meaning. the crowd seems to go crazy just because they know the song, not because they know what it represents, or used to represent. does anyone agree? its as if they just play it because it almost identifies them as a band. its too bad really, its such a great song.
SWEETEST THING- good song, that's about it. nothing amazing about it, its nice to hear and sing along to it.
DESIRE- just bono and edge, very, very good. i loved the harmonica at the end
STAY - again just bono and edge, i LOVE this song. Zooropa is my favorite album and this is the only song off it that they play.....so i savoured the moment. its a great song.
BAD/40 - highlight number 2. firstly, i don't know what norweigan wood is, but i did hear bono sing some stuff i didn't recognize so that must be it.
this is the song that i could've heard and left the concert right after it. he hit every note perfectly. "I'm WIIIIIIIDE AWAAAAAAKE!!!!" just incredible. easily one of their best songs. wow. if you hear this live, just close your eyes and soak it in. its exhilirating.
STREETS - highlight #3 . Bar none, THE show stopper of the night. the way they do the lighting on this song is incredible. it also helps that its my favorite song by U2......its awesome. i don't think anyone was sitting for this one.
PRIDE- great song, they played it perfectly, im just sick of it i guess. can't they play unforgetable fire or a sort of homecoming instead?? or at least new year's, i will follow etc.....
(encore) BULLET - really, really good. im not a huge fan of this song and i thought it was amazing. it really helps when you're up close, obviously.
WITH OR WITHOUT YOU- amazing. flat out amazing. so much passion, crowd singalong....just a great, great song. they added the "shine like stars" verse at the end which was very nice to hear.
THE FLY- i got my wish!! i didn't hear it in TO, but when they started it i freaked out. it was awesome. but i'm pretty sure i was the only one into it, jumping up and down and screaming for more. this song rocks the house.
ONE - highlight#4. Its funny how you can listen to a song a billion times, and have it click in 10 years after it came out. this was the most heart felt version i have EVER heard. just watching bono's face while he sang was great. you can tell he's so genuine about his music, especially this song. easily one of their best. to top it off, at the end of it bono starts singing "She's a mystery to me!!!!" that was incredible. im pretty sure i was the only one in the heart singing along, nobody seemed to react to it. l loved it. i was just waiting for the drums and bass to kick in.....but it didn't happen. oh well........
WALK ON- pretty standard, i like how they changed the ending to make it a real build-up type song. very well done. i would probably choose something else to close with, but i'm not complaning.
Well that's as brief as i could have made it. bono said it was the loudest arena on the tour yet. i believe him too, there were about 25 grand there or so. i just wanna thank U2, and especially the guy who gave me the heart wristband after PJ harvey and allowed me to be so close to my favorite band.
