Me and my wife decided very last minute to attend the show tonight. We've both been long time fans, with me first seeing them on the Unforgettable Fire tour in 1985, as well as the JT tour in 1987, and every tour since other than the last tour. We've both been turned off by Bono sticking his nose in the this past election (you're IRISH!), but got last minute tickets lower level on Edge's side about 15 rows up. There were no surprises in the setlist, which was fine with me...standouts were Exit, Bad, Streets and surpisingly, for me, Elevation, which I presumed would sound tired but sounded great and was a crowd pleaser. Unfortunately the sound where we were sitting was very ear piercingly high pitched and distorted. But the band was tight, in good spirits and Bono kept the politics to a minimum, and actually paid homage to Laura Bush and Condy Rice during Ultraviolet. I'm still dumbfounded as to why Lena Dunham and the radical Angela Davis are paraded as role models, but other than that and the poor acoustics where we sat the show was first rate, and well worth seeing. If you're a long time fan worried about U2 sounding old and tired...rest at ease...they're still the best in the business.
