Having seen U2 in Eugene, I was even more excited to see the show the boys' would bring to the Bay area. San Francisco has always been a favorite venue for U2 and I was hoping for a little something extra. Well, I was disappointed in as far as that goes. There wasn't as much energy as Eugene and they did the standard set they did in Eugene minus 'Do you Feel Loved', which they have taken out of the show for who knows why? The Karoke song was once again 'Daydream Believer' and not 'Sweet Caroline' as I was hoping for. Lastly, they had been playing 'Playboy Mansion' with 'Where the Streets Have No Name' but inexplicably left it out of this show, contrary to the set list above.
However, this being stated, they are still a sight to behold. Bono and The Edge have once again written some powerful and poignant songs that move and groove me. Adam and Larry are stoic as usual and the show went off without a hitch. Once cool thing about being in the Bay area as opposed to Eugene is that the stars come out for shows in California. I saw several celebrities, from Nicolas Cage (The Hollywood Hot commodity) to Mike Lee (One of the stars of all three Godfather movies and an excellent filmmaker in his own right, having just finished "The Sponger.")
U2 is perhaps the last band, besides Pink Floyd, that can truly pull off a grand stadium show. It is a spectacle to behold and I expect it to only get better as they approach dates in Vancouver and Seattle later in the year!
