I purchased a package deal from a radio station in Fresno, California. We loaded ourselves on a charter bus the day of the concert. My cousin and I had everything you'd need for a party road trip. It was the only good thing I could say about any trip to Oakland.
I had brought past U2 cassette tapes to listen to. The bus driver allowed other attendees at the concert parking lot use the toilet and I had them ripped off.
The concert started with gay dancers in silver outfits to try to entertain the crowd before the show. I guess I didn't get that part of it. Public Enemy and The Sugarcubes opened. I really don't remember much of their performances. I got a strange sense they were only there to see U2 (imagine that).
It was the best concert I have ever attended. The feeling that stands out is the feeling I was looking at the start of a great beginnning, technological and world oneness (the availability of information and how much we were connected to the world through TV). Not sure if that was the intent but it really had some foresight about the information age approaching (internet)
Another memory I have is looking back over my shoulder at one point up into the stadium and seeing it covered in what looked like TV static.
