Not only was I at this show, I PLAYED at this show. I spent the previous summer in Dublin and got to know Bono pretty well through U2/In Tua Nua violinist Steve Wickham. (Bono and I had met in 1981 in Atlanta and in 1983 in Howth).
They have a bit where they bring somebody on stage to play guitar. "3 (or 4) chords and the truth." At the Atlanta Bono pulled some guy up on stage and he couldn't play guitar at all. Bono looked down on me in the first row and asked, "Randy can you do this?" I leaped on stage, he put the guitar on me, told me the chords- E. Am, C, G - and we went in to "Knockin' On Heaven's Door."
It was the highlight of my life. Everyone thought it was a set up because I knew him, but it was completely spontaneous. Thank God someone snapped a picture of it!
