What a great show! Glad to hear from the others that this show was particularly special as I felt the same way. The crowd and band seemed to respond to each other even in an arena that size.
I've seen them in '87 at the Silverdome and them in '92 at the Palace. Incidentially, I was so put off by Bono's antics on the Zoo tour (excerising his demons - See current RS cover story) and the sound quality from where I was sitting that I stopped going to their shows.
The last two albums have forced me to return and I'm so glad I did. This time with my wife and some friends. We even rented a limo.
I too wish I could go to tonight's show as well. The feeling and emotion U2 creates is like attending a wedding or a funeral - all souls connected on a feeling or thought.
There were so many highlights in the setlist, brevity will be difficult.
City of Blinding Lights was such an extraordinary opening number. The energy carried through the next 4 or 5 songs.
Elevation with a stop and the crowd singing the word gave me chills. Vertigo was great too with an even heavier guitar sound.
Beautiful Day was very uplifting as was Streets. Never tire of these two.
Love and Peace or Else was a spectacle and this part of the set stirred many different emotions. It was hard to watch the re-enactment of hostages with Bono and the bandana. Sunday Bloody Sunday, Bullet the Blue Sky. Very conflicting because you feel patriotic but are also aware of the atrocities.
It's at this point where U2 show how they are masters of the performance. After these similar-themed songs that rip at your heart strings, they evoke pathos with Miss Sarajevo and then hope with Pride and Streets and One. I needed that. I'm sure many others did too.
The highlight was the Edge playing Walk On acoustically and capturing the melody with extra guitar fills so sweetly.
Also, I've always loved 40 and saw it in 87 but missed it when they didn't play it in '92 and am glad it's back.
