Music was playing in the arena after Institute left the scene.... You can smell it in the arena right now. Even though it was 30 minutes before U2 hit the stage people were ready. It had been a long time since the Irish band was here in the Detroit Rock City. But now finaly they were here and people like me that waited 9 months to see this oh man we were in trans. I stepped down to get a shirt you can't come to a show and not get a shirt to remind you of the ecstatic mood you were in.
Comming back into my seats picture looked something like this:
After that the lights went dark and the music stopped...Crowd took over they were expecting it in seconds it was going to start..... And then the sound of "City Of Blinding Lights" came on crowd went even crazier than they were and ................ THEY APPEARED.... Bono standing at the top of the arch with the fans and the rest of the group playing on stage....
Crowd was great they carried the song all the way thru and the whole arena sang as one.. It was great... After the song was done Bono said "Good evening Detroit, this is why they call it Detroit" looking at the crowd that was aching for more...
Uno
Dos
Tres
Catorce.....Hello, hello, ola ....and the Vertigo was on the way.... crowd got even louder if that was possible... and the stage looked something like this....
Vertigo really stirred the crowd... the atmosphere cannot really be described in words.... Elevation followed with I Will Follow, Electric Co., The Ocean and Still Haven't Found right behind it these are a little bit older Bono said... most younger fans weren't really into these....
Beautifull Day came next... everyone knows this one..... atmosphere gets even better.... After that Bono explains that The Edge is from the future and that he came here on a space ship that landed in Ireland.... They asked him what the future is like and The Edge said "It's Heaven" during this monologe The Edge is playing the first four cords or Miracle Drug.... "This one is called Miricle Drug" said Bono as the song started...... right after the song finished the lights went dark and Bono started talking "This next one is about two men butting heads, one an old man and one young one' "This one is for my father" he said and "Sometimes You Can't Make it on Your Own" started, as with every show the crowd helped Bono play this one... it takes an emotional toll on him.....
Love and Peace or Else followed with Sunday Bloody Sunday and Bullet The Blue Sky ... before Bono told a story that almost brought me to tears.... He talked about this young woman during the war in Bosnia who wanted to organise a beauty pagent while the city was shelled by mortar fire and snipers were killing people left and right.... I was there I remember this.... this one was special to me.... and then he launched in Miss Sarajevo... crowd was not really responsive to this one but it really ment a lot to me to hear this song.... after the song was done they had the Universal Declaration of Human Rights on the screen... this was one of the highlights of the eveining to me... Pride(In The Name of Love) came next the crowd lived again ... it seems that not one person in the whole place was quiet...we were all singing at once and trying to soak in the moment as much s possible... Where the Streets Have no Name... this was next.... the crowd was still great singing. Once a song was done Bono started talking about what the world was doing to help counties all over.... and he talked about THE ONE campain and how they were helping out people affacted by Katrina and Rita..... One was next .... this was quite a song again as the rest of the night the crowd was all over this song....helping Bono... Goodnight Detroit was next and U2 was of the stage....
Here comes an encore... they came back out to do 3 songs ....Walk On, Stuck In a Moment and With or Without You these were all done in aqustic versions and the crowd was really mellow during this... it's was a great encore but it did not last long.... This was it it was the end.....
The crowd would not have it that way... they were not getting away from the Motor City just yet... we were all on our feet not wanting this to end and once the sound of All Because of You came on we knew it was not over yet the seccond encore was even better than the first one... Only a hand full of people had left the building at this time... Yaheew was next and in the true spirit of Bono the song and the graphics behind were absolutly great...
And the last but not least 40 a true U2 song.... it was greab and at this time mst of us in the audience were waking up and realising that the last 2 hours did go by even thought it seemed we were only there a split moment..... Bono was the first to say goodbye and after him went The Edge...Adam and Larry stayed a little longer and then that was it....
Walking out of the arena I found myself coming out of a trance I have been in for the past 2.5 hours. The concert was one of the best I had seen in my life... I was walking around looking for a ticket for the show next night so I could enjoy the show once more.... did not have the luck... but I will be there in Cleveland again to see the show....
I hope that this helps you get a mental picture of the show and for some of you bring back a picture you saw last night.....
