Arriving at the Pepsi Center at 12:30 seemed a bit of a overkill, but I was willing to do so seeing that I paid $150 for my general admission ticket. After I got there however, I didn't feel so bad. For several reasons. One, I talked to a few people who paid up to $300 per GA seat. And
two, because the first 350 people got to stand in the middle of the heart shaped catwalk. I have to admit, my ticket price was
worth it. I had a spot directly in the heart
and literally could reach out and touch the members as they strolled the catwalk(however,
the four hundred pound security guard suggested it wouldn't be a good idea).
Now on to the show. PJ Harvey, the opening act, performed brilliantly. To see a female singer playing real, gritty, well written tunes with exceptional showmanship was very inspiring. In retrospect, her set was in several ways superior to the U2 show.
However, that is a matter of opinion and easily debated.
As U2 took the stage (while the house
lights were still up)the place erupted, even more so when the group blasted into "Elevation," Bono leaping up and down with a level of energy not seen is their television performances. The real pickup of the set was the all important second song. "Beautiful Day," transfered beautifully to the arena atmosphere.
I have read another fan review of this show and he commented that the sound was muddy. I agree. Many times, it was difficult to decipher the different insturments. Bono was prolific as always
in working the crowd, but the show made me realize one seemingly minor yet potent thing. They are just men! Lol. A brilliant show put on by brilliant individuals.
