I was worried as I sat and listened to PJ Harvey open the show up.
I could hardly understand a single lyric that was sung!!!!
Fortunately the sound for U2 was MUCH better.
The last review that I posted here was from the Madison WI Popmart show.
How happy I was to be able to see U2 in a smaller venue!!
The long and short of it is the Denver show was about as good as it can get. Even with the inflated ticket prices. I'm sorry, I have a problem with paying $275 for two tickets, $30 for a shirt, etc etc.
I was very happy to have the band include Sunday Bloody Sunday and New Years Day. Songs that were not played at the Pop Mart shows that I went to.
About the only thing I wish would have been different, regarding the set list, would be to drop New York, in favor of Kite.
I guess the band feels obligated to play the US city titles while in the US.
They played Miami at both Pop shows. Now it's New York. I just don't care for either of those two songs.
Bono seemed his energetic self. Running around the 'heart', playing with/teasing the crowd, etc. The altitude didn't seem to slow him at all.
After the concert I was listening to a local radio station that was taking U2 requests. A listener called in and just trashed the show.
The callers gripe was that the new material just didn't play well live.
My girlfriend turned to me and said, 'was he at the same show we were?!'
I was pretty shocked at his negativity as well! I thought the new tunes were handled great! Except of course for New York. :-)
Initially I wasn't going to go to this show. I thought the ticket prices were outrageous, and they were. I didn't care for the over play of Beautiful Day from the new CD, and from the over play of The Sweetest Thing.
I thought that U2 was taking a musical turn that didn't appeal to me.
Then I went out and got the new cd and listened to it.
I would have to say that I but the new CD on a level of The Joshua Tree, and Achtung Baby. Those are two of my favorite cd's EVER!
WALK ON!!!
