U2 Show Versatility in Their Large Productions as Well as "Music Based" Shows!!!
*****
I was at the U2 show last night in the 300 section right behind the stage, and if your wondering, those seats were jim dandy. The view of the band was fine due to their consciousness of 'us' behind the stage (obviously Larry was limited to this). The sound was fine where I was at, and in a lesson in acoustics, the sound will be more muddy farther from the stage.
Their music exceptionally executed last night, playing the songs longer and harder than before. There song list rocked me all night. I did appreciate the minimalist (in U2 standards) but effective visual aspects of the show, i.e. large sheets and the choices of lighting.
But...
I am extremely disappointed with all the talk the last couple of years dissing U2's performances of the 90's shows. People who feel this way obviously don't have the ability to percieve the U2 'signature' in all that they do. And since they are profound artists, they do this well. I can't believe people have such narrow perspective on quality that they dismiss the power in such songs and performances and are ignorant to the profound cultural influences U2 took time and effort to expose to the simple minded 'pop' culture. Take some lessons in satire, simpletons! I can't believe there were people who didn't feel the soul in 'Gone' last night or appreciate the various ways 'Staring at the Sun' has taken, especially coming off of 'Discoteque', which also was a rocker. I hope that they played 'Sunday, Bloody Sunday' for the new appreciation and application of the song and not to tolerate a crowd of people emotionally singing the chorus and having no idea of it's meaning.
Great show last night guys! I'll take minimalism or all out productions from U2, for they are diverse artists and able to approach any style well. Here's hoping your public will rub there two brain cells together or grow an ounce of cultural taste!
