by Keeper of the List

Waiting in line for thirteen hours never felt so good! Two Colorado boys, the Keeper of the List and Shadow Guy, and a Massachusettes transplant, who was effectionately referred to as Schindler, for he was the brains behind the List, took it upon ourselves to make the day one that we would never forget. So, starting at 5:30 AM, when we stumbled upon Tom, the Denver kid who drove all the way down from college in Montana, Rob and his rag-tag crew from Utah (man was Julare cute), and Big Gerry, "Crazy" Dena and their goofy 28-year old friend with the braces, Ryan, all of whom turned out to be a o.k., even though they live in the Springs, all bets were off. "Are you here for the U2 concert?" the next arrivals asked. "No, we're waiting for WWF tickets," we replied. Along with yet another group of Utes (Seth, Emily and Co. with the tent), the Inner Circle (the first fifteen people in line)was complete.
Bubba, security guard extraordinaire, came by just after 7:00 AM to give us our first update - our "under 12 hour" update. With only twelve hours to go, and it being still a tad bit early to, well, you know, engage in "beverage behavior," we decided to start the List, which eventually made it all the way to 187 (people in line that is). "Let there be a list," exclaimed Schidler, and there was a list. The List represented all that is good about humanity. It was a document, of the people, by the people and for the people, and it was designed to try to make sure that people looked out for each other and didn't allow others who arrived later in the day to rob us of what was rightfully ours, which of course was the chance to be in the so-called "Heart" of the stage, should we so choose. Members of the List included everyone from Vic from England, who flew in for the Denver show only, to Cibo Matto Man, his twin brother Travis and the woman with the "Dance with me Bono" sign, to Sarah, the beautiful woman with the hacky-sack (man, I wish I was better at that game!), Jimmy, the red-headed wonder and his wife Sabrina and Steve, the dude with the Krispy-Creams.
Oh yeah, and about the concert, you know, the reason we all came, it ROCKED! Shadow Guy, who was also with me at McNichol's Arena for the Joshua Tree tour Sunday November 17, 1987 - and yes it was a school night - went as far as to say that last night's show was "outstanding"! (Although, we both still think that the Joshua Tree show was one of the best we've ever seen.) Anyway, for the Elevation concert we had a front row center view, and the sound was powerful. The straight ahead rythm provided by Larry Mullins, Jr. and Adam Clayton truly laid the foundation for the Edge and Bono to do what they do best, rip and roar. The show reminded me of what it was like to see them on the Joshua Tree, which was all about the music. Penetrating drums and bass filled the arena, and exhilerating guitar licks and familiar vocals reaffirmed why U2 is a favorite band.
