Ah, the List...the List is what it should be, but sometimes the List gets waylaid by greed...

The idea of the List was a decent one - keep those spots in line for those most deserving, they who arrive the earliest. The List has the backing of the participants, allowing them to leave the sanctity of the line for brief, shining moments of eating, relieving oneself or stretching. The List lets you leave, but only if you regularly return. The List keeps the late-arriving riffraff from the front of the line. Or, at least, it should.

Obviously, the horrible wretch of a woman who felt it was her inalienable right to stand directly between myself and Edge for the entire show was no devotee of the List. Well, screw it, say I. She will find her just desserts at another juncture. The followers of the List are truly of a higher natural order.

The show? I would say, the horrible wretch notwithstanding, my vantage point made the evening enjoyable. The sound was pretty good, the band largely "on," and the crowd generally enthusiatically well-behaved. I've seen better, namely St. Patrick's Day at the old Boston Garden on the Zoo TV tour, but that show stands on its own. Of the 16 U2 shows I've seen, this one ranks about fifth or sixth - really good, adn really fun, but not overwhelming.

Really, what made the day was the abundance of good cheer and better people I engaged with for 15 hours in line. People to share grog, food and "treats" with, as well as stories of past, present and future glory. People who make one appreciate that which is right with humanity. People who make me realize the horrible wretch is the anomaly, not the norm.

Lon live the List.
