I'll lead off with one word about this show, WOW!
The Denver show was my first U2 concert, as I have been a fan a little before the last Mile High show. I didn't quite know what to expect as I entered through the Pepsi Center's doors onto the floor of the near empty arena and proceeded to a spot close to the barrier outside of the heart. I was pretty excited to be so close to the heart, as I expected to be no where near the stage judging by the amount of people who were outside braving the near freezing temps outside. To let you guys know where I was I was about five feet away on the outside of the heart where Bono played the bull to The Edge's matador.
The hour until PJ Harvey took the stage was almost unbearable, and my legs were almost dead from standing for well over two hours in line and then the hour wait for PJ to take the stage. I enjoyed PJ's set, and thought that the girl in her "band" who played all the instruments was awesome, but finally after about a couple songs too long PJ left and returned the stage to U2.
I really wanted to have a seat about the time U2 graced the Pepsi Center stage to the deafening roar of the throng of U2 fans. Suddenly what little room that I had to stretch and move around a little was gone and U2 was blasting out "Elevation." Don't let anyone tell you different, Bono is a showman. The story that he related to us about the origins of "Sweetest Thing" was great, and Bono playing keyboard during the piece was even better. I don't know if any 10-song stretch in any concert could be better. "Ground Beneath Her Feet," "Bad," "Where the Street Have No Name," "Mysterious Ways," "The Fly," followed by the encore with "Bullet the Blue Sky," "With or Without You," "One," and "Walk On." I could have just heard those ten songs and been happy, but the rest of the over two hour show was excellent.
It was a brilliant show, I'll admit that I haven't been to a lot of concerts, but this show I will never forget. The ringing in my ears and the soreness in my legs for standing for so long was all part of the beautiful, yet cold April day in the Rockies. I'll never forget it.
