I'm going to go against the current trend of most of the reviews posted here and tell you that I thought the show last night was absolutely, without a doubt...... fantastic.
Sure, Bono got a bit 'preachy' at times. Sure, the set wasn't as flashy as it has been in tours past. And sure, the merchandise was overpriced.
However, none of that takes away from the experience of last night, because I went there for the music, and Bono and company certainly delivered on that front last night. The songs from the new album sounded amazing live, and I was impressed by how well the new material fit in with the 'old'. In this age of 'created' experiences and enhanced pop music, it is refressing to see a band like U2 who goes out on stage night after night in city after city... without a 'net'. Just the four of them doing what they have ALWAYS done best for the last 20+ years.
In my book, any night spent watching U2 perform live while surrounded by fellow fans is a good one. Period.
My thanks to the band for a great night. I look forward to seeing them again the next time they come to town.
