U2 reminded the Denver crowd that there is simply no other rock band touring now who is more relevant or more available to their fans. I saw Eric Clapton and James Taylor when they came through Denver earlier--and their shows were indistinguishable from every other show on their tour. U2, however, went above and beyond to connect with their Colorado crowd--and more importantly to connect musically and spiritually with Americans who still don't quite know what hit 'em back in September.
The simplicity of the stage production
really amplified the quality and sincerity of U2's music and message--especially on Kite, Until the End of the World and All I Want is You. Comparing the show to the last one I saw during the Zoo TV tour, I especially appreciated the fact that Bono didn't have a "chop down the Joshua Tree" attitude, but was willing to go back to U2's spiritual roots.
