First things first, I'm glad that I'm not the only one who was horribly disappointed by the crowd. To call it a pathetic crowd is really an understatement. We sat up at the very top of the stadium and had a great view of the entire room, so many people sitting?!? The aisles filled as people streamed toward the exits after "Streets" are you kidding me? It's the first time that I've been angry at my fellow concertgoers because it brought the experience down. I really felt guilty for standing the whole show and blocking the view of the people behind me. Enough about the crowd, typical garbage Toronto crowd.
The "Claw" is a spectacular work of art, it's massive but makes the stadium feel cozy for those of us up in the highest points of the stadium. It was remarkable how close we felt to the stage.
The time between the end of Snow Patrol and the start of U2 was way too long, at least an hour. This might have contributed to the lack of energy from the crowd, it felt like we were just sitting there waiting for something to happen.
Alright the show... Four straight from NLOTH, Breathe is a good opener. I really expected "Magnificent" to blow things open and get people going, it didn't, not the fault of the band, they brought it, the song sounded amazing, it just didn't get the crowd going.
The addition of "Alison" to the end of "Beautiful Day" was really cool.
"Still haven't found..." sounded really fresh, very moving. Elevation could have been removed and I would have been okay with that. I LOVED "Your Blue Room", but agree with a previous reviewer, no one knew what it was, too bad.
"Unknown Caller" and "End of the world" were awesome. "Stay" brought tears to my eyes.
"Crazy Tonight" I had read bad reviews of the remix, I really like it, great vibe. "Sunday Bloody Sunday" could be put on the shelf for a while and I wouldn't miss it. "Walk on" once again had me tearing up, the "aleluias" that closed "Elevation" shows would have had me a blubbering mess, I wish they were in.
"One" and "Streets" as always defy words. Thank you U2 for going back to the red screens on the intro to "Streets".
I can't express enough, how happy I was to have "Ultraviolet" back in the mix, really great song and the visuals are great as well. "With or without you" was getting stale on "Vertigo", now it's mouldy, which is a shame because I love that song, it's the first U2 song that I ever heard 22 years ago.
"Moment of Surrender" is a really nice send off and apt way to close. I think a lot of people were looking for a real energy song to close, that's not the way U2 roll, "40", "Dead man", "Love is blindness" need I say more.
The stage and screen were jaw dropping. The roof being open was great, sound was really good for Rogers Centre. Most importantly, the band are in top form, I give them full marks for a tremendous show.
