I took my four year old daughter to the show, which I'd have to admit was a crazy idea. I'm either the best dad in the world or the worst dad in the world to be in that sea of people with a little one. Nonetheless, she loved it and we were treated so nice by everyone around us. Even the drunk guys had our backs if you know what I mean. I don't have a lot of time, so I'll make this kind of quick...
In posts following, people will grumble about the traffic, find fault with the Rose Bowl and its horribly long lines to move or go anywhere. Songs were missed by anyone who tried to make a quick break to the beer line or bathroom and all of that is true; I know because I missed some too. (A four year old only has so much bladder room.) Even so, if one was able to take themself outta that frame of mind and in to a positive one... they'd soon realize that they were taken out of this world momentarily and into space for a couple hours; the journey was extraordinary! The music: near flawless.
Bottom line: Bono and U2, graciously go out of their way on a nightly basis to, "Thank..." their fans "...for giving them a great life." Well, on this occasion, I'd like to thank them for giving us a great life, because the world is certainly a better place when you can load the re-mastered Joshua Tree on your I-pod and cruise around this sometimes hectic life on a higher plane!
I'd go on more about the show, but whether my opinions are right or wrong doesn't matter. Plus, you can catch it all on a DVD near you sometime in the near future to judge for yourself. There is likely little doubt that the songs of No Line on the Horizon translate even better in a live format, and that Unkown Caller is likely the best song put out so far in 2009 by any artist anywhere. Anyway, thanks for reading, and here's to the future, man and woman! Get on your f'in boots! - T
