I saw U2 earlier this Summer at the second Boston show. Last night was my 20th show.
All I can say was U2 came in and hit a grand slam out of the park! They set the Rose Bowl on fire! I was in Red Zone II on Adam's side. Buying those tickets was my best call of the year. Private concessions and restroom on the floor made an already awesome night into perfection.
I really have to say the Rose Bowl did it right too! Major props to them! I think they helped set the vibe that ultimately turned out to be the best U2 audience I have ever seen! 100,000 standing, singing, arms raised high, fans going full throttle for 24 songs with not break!! To look from the floor next to the stage and see the mass of people in the bowl swaying to the music, was what can I say? A sight to behold!!! When U2 tore into Elevation I thought the stadium might just cave in!
Can U2 draw the celebrities? 10 Minutes before blast off I was queued for the restroom on the floor and saw a parade of them coming in, Paris Hilton, Collin Farrel, Danny Devito (who stood right behind me the whole show), Barbara Streisand, Demi Moore and Adam Sandler. (plus about 2 dozen others)
All I can say was last night will stay with me for the rest of my days! It was magical, it was beautiful, I would say historical, in a historic majestic venue! U2 and the fans in attendance rocked like I have never seen them before! I can't wait to see the DVD that is produced from last night's magic!
General notes.....Got there at about 2:30, as I said the Rose Bowl should be commended for not only opening the lots early but encouraging people to get there early and just kick back. Tailgating while listening to the sound check that was crystal clear a half mile away was cool. The vibe from the fans and fellow tailgaters was awesome. Lots of laid back cool people. Black Eyed Peas rocked and set the mood early on. What a night what a show!!!!!
