This was our 1st live U2 concert although my wife and I have watched all their concert DVDs a zillion times on the 73" bigscreen with surround sound, and listened endlessly to all their CDs so we were expecting a lot. And we got it! Don't think the actual music lived up to the recorded versions, but seeing them live is a whole nother thing! Watched it again on Utube when we got home and the flaws were more obvious. Will be interested to see how it goes when the DVD comes out.
We arrived about 3:30, tailgated in the preferred parking lot to soundcheck music, and a mellower crowd we have never seen at concerts. Stood in line for an hour for the bathroom, but even that was cool. Wandered to the stadium at sunset and made it in with our toddies ok. That first view coming out of the tunnel will be imprinted on my mind forever. Wow!
We thought all staff were very friendly and helpful. Example: Somehow our tickets turned out to be in the nosebleed seats. On the way up, my wife turned her ankle. When we told staff our problem they sent us to Customer Service where we got to trade in our #100 tickets for #250 ones in ROW 6 between the legs of The Claw! What a view! We were totally knocked out the whole show.
Blackeyed Peas not really our thing, but missed most of their set exchanging tickets. Bono seemed 3 sheets to the wind at first - probably tipped a few with his celeb buddies beforehand, but hey, he's entitled. He and his bandmates have brought more pleasure to more people for longer than anyone I can think of. They deserve to enjoy the show as much as we do.
I think the claw was superior to the screens we've seen on the DVDs of previous shows, especially the circular LED screen. I watched that as much as the band. Hard to improve on the Zoo TV and Popmart technology, but they did it.
The crowd didn't generate the noise we expected, and the show deserved, but LA crowds are notorious for that. They were into it tho, at least everyone we could see. The shere enormity of the Rose Bowl was an entitly in itself - I can't see how any other venue could beat it. All-in-all probably the most incredible event we've ever seen. Can't wait til next time!
