Another in a long line of incredible u2 shows, as they literally burned up the stage. Even when compared to the other bands and individual performers who played that day. While artists as different as Joan Baez, The Police and the Neville Bros. took to the stage, there was absolutely no doubt that 90% of the crowd was there to see u2. And only u2!
From the banners to the Beatle-esque cheering, this was unquestionably u2's coming out party on the national stage. They blistered through a short in length but long in emotion set and left the crowd utterly exhausted. And thoroughly satisfied. Even the reunion of The Police took a back seat to u2 on this magical evening. (Why they played after u2 is still a mystery to me, although at the time it probably sounded like a good idea to Bill Graham and the promoters.)
U2 and Chicago, even a died in the wool Packer backer from Wisconsin has got to admit that there's something about seeing u2 play in Chicagoland!
