Rather than give the insipid view that the show was "awesome" or other such trite, I'll say it up front...this is the best show I've seen U2 play. I never did see the Joshua tour (college puts a crimp on disposable income) but I saw ZooTv and Popmart (4 times, including opening night Vegas and closing night in Seattle--both of which were great shows) Point is, I can now understand why fans were so wistful for the older days. The fact is that U2 are much better suited for arenas and not stadiums. I was fearful that the show wouldn't have any visual excitement to it...(what can you do in a small catacomb like an arena?) That fear was abated 2 mins into the show when the house lights cut out and Willie Williams takes over (if you don't know who he is, you really should read his stories at u2.com) The stage lights up from the catwalk (something you would completely miss if you were on the floor. Floor's nice but the seats above the stage level really let you enjoy the beautiful set) The visual show was unbelievable! The color video screens rising from the stage really add to the songs in which they're used. (Which brings up a point, people behind the stage have really crummy seats because they don't see the images...they only see the backsides of the screens--this is a dirty little secret to the tour, those behind the stage get hosed.) I'm not going to give out a run down of what they did, how they did it, etc...the show is great visually, Bono sounds damn near perfect (sometimes better than the album..."in a little while" case in point) and edge plays flawlessly (a real treat to guitar fans like me) If you've got your tickets already, get ready for something way better than you had hoped for. If you don't have your tickets yet, sell the house, sell the kids, and make sure that you won't be kicking yourself in the butt later when everyone comes back from the concert and raves like a lunatic...trust me, I'm jaded and have never even submitted a review. Last night changed all that...
