I posted a review of last night's show as well...but tonight's show...wow. That much better.
This time I showed up around 5:30 and still managed to get only a few feet from the tip of the outside of the heart. It was a lot of fun to see people that I had met at yesterday's show - there's a really sense of community with U2 fans, I love it. Anyway, tonight's show was (in my opinion) just that much better than the previous. Bono hinted early on that they were gonna make tonight's show even better, and so they did. There are two songs I've always wanted to be in a U2 audience for, and they played them both: Angel of Harlem and Stay (Faraway, So Close!) I never thought I'd see them play Stay, and tonight they did it just 5 feet from me. Amazing. Bono seemed to come up with it spontaneously - he whispered something to the Edge, and next thing you know he was talking to a stage manager who quickly fetched the lyrics for the song. Bono placed the lyric sheet on the stage and with a grin and one finger over his mouth made a "shhh, don't tell" motion to those of us who were near. It was one of those wonderful human moments of the show that I'll always cherish. Yeah, he spent almost the whole song reading the lyric sheet, but he still pulled it off wonderfully. "Kite" was also a big answer to our longings, litterally. A few people I met who had been at the San Diego shows had signs asking for Kite, and supposedly had even been told by the Edge a few shows earlier (from stage) that it was coming. Sure enough they pulled it out, with Bono's disclaimer that they could screw things up early, and it sounded great. The crowd loved it.
Another wonderful surprise was the inclusion of "All I Want Is You"...It sounded great, and the crowd was taken to another level. Really, tonight's show was a great singalong event with "Angel of Harlem", "Stay", and "All I Want..."...all the best songs to just sing at the top of your voice. :)
A girl was brought onto stage to dance with Bono during "Mysterious Ways", and she really stole the spotlight with her moves. After dancing briefly with her, she did a twirl and began some hip-shaking, seductive moves on Bono, to which he smiled and backed away to give her the stage. I even saw Adam laughing! She danced for awhile in a manner not unlike the belly dancer from Zoo TV, to which Bono referenced in the intro of the next song where he ad libbed a little lyric to the girl, something to the effect of "it's been done before, but that's okay, because you're beautiful tonight." All in all, quite impressive and a lot of fun.
What a show...can't wait to see them in Chicago on the 12th!
