"We're just getting started, " Bono said. Fitting since just before I walked into the Savvis Center a tv reporter interviewed me, asking "Are these guys still relevant?"
Like that deserved an answer.
My first U2 show was the ill-fated opening night in Chicago during the first leg. Most there agreed Bono lacked intensity, as did the crowd. But in St. Louis they proved they are the best band on the planet. My U2 concert veteran friend said, "I've never seen a show like that."
It wasn't the set list, that unfortunately hasn't been changed in weeks (where's 'Crumbs'?), but the energy was unmatched. I have been to concerts, sporting events, you name it...I've never heard a crowd that loud from beginning to end. From the 50+ year old in front of me to the 12 year old behind me. No one sat down. No one stopped dancing. I still have goosebumps thinking about the ovation for Streets.
Are these guys still relevant? You've got to be kidding me.
