by JB . Belfast

15 of us travelled from Belfast on a hired van, I printed out a4 sheets with the word U2 and ELEVATION for the side of the van and on the front I printed Slane 2001, so we got waves and weird looks all the way from Belfast.
We arrived at the venue after a 3 mile walk about 12.35, just in time to catch Relish. They were fantastic, a very promsing band from N.Ireland. JJ72 were good but I don't like their style. Keils was great 1 male and 7 females in her band, and the backing singers were fantastic. The Chilli Peppers were amazing, the whole crowd waved their shirts at the request of Anthony. Flea played tribute to U2 and expressd how touched the band were to paly before such an amazing band, they also dedicated a song to 'Bono's Pop's (dad)
So for U2, the rest of the heart was put into place on the stage, the whole carpet was lifted with fresh new carpet under neath, the front of the stage was removed and steps where put in place for bono to get down to the heart level. A huge operation with about 40 people on stage. The whole of the Stero Mcs album was played then New Orders new song, Thin Lizzy (crowd started jumping up and down) and the Beatles were played then Elevation. The crowd quickly relised what was about to happen, and happen it did. U2 Simply walked on stage and rocked, not taking a breath until the 5th song, a rollercoaster of a beginning.
Bono was in a raging mood during SBS stating that as a country we are small but we have to think big, 'we are bigger that a gun, than a bomb, were not going back to Omagh, we are bigger than that'
A sort of homecomming was fantastic played like the Wide Awake ep, apart from Bono messing up the lyrics.
Bullet saw more of the Chapman rap with Bono at the tip of the heart shining it on the audience then to edge, and then using it on himself like a gun, shouting, and really shouting, IRA, UDA, UFF, British Army put the guns away, as if to say kill me but no one else. Very emotional for me being from West Belfast and wanting to see peace in this land
The tributes paid throught the night to his father were very emotional, Bono cryng during Kite and One.
Streets had to be seen to be believed.
More to say but I can't think . Oh Coldplay were amazing too!!!
I am going to Slane 2 so expect a comparison from me!
