Paris!!!!!
What can i say, It was miles and miles beyond the best gig i have ever ever been to! I had only seen U2 once before in manchester earlier this year but still nothing could prepare me for the Stade de France and the performance that followed, it blew me and the rest of the crowd away. You could almost reach out and touch the sense of anticipation in the stadium. The mexican waves were a sight to behold, the floor of the sadium turning over pink as a wave of arms reached in the air! The random hysterical screaming every time a roady or someone came on stage to put out a set list or test equipment left everyone breathless and just increased electricity in the air and the band hadn't even come on stage yet. The release and final sense of elation when they finally stepped out onto the stage was unbelievable. I don't care what anyone else said about Bonos voice to start with, all i know is that he was on fire from the beginning! The entire crowd went wild to vertigo and I will follow and it just kept on getting better and better. It was the first time i had heard All i want is you live and it knocked me off my feet! Again Bono cracked during sometimes and with it he broke the hearts of everyone in the stadium as he fought back the tears. When he dedicated Running to Stand Still to the victims of the London Bombings, i have never felt such an atmosphere of solidarity. we were sat next to 2 girls from australia who had been caught up in the tragidy and we had been due to travel through Kings cross ourselves on the day after the bombings on our way to gig and had to change our travel plans just to get to paris, so as bono spoke and sang it caught in my throat. The scene as hundreds of people waved white balloons and thousands waved lighters was a sight i will never ever forget. With or without you never ever fails to get everone going crazy and the final rendition of Vertigo sent a last wave of hysteria through the crowd. Even as everone left and the band were long gone the 80 000 strong crowd were still echoing the chorus of Vertigo on their way home, Awesome. All i can say is to U2, and to everyone in the Stade de France that night thankyou for making this a night to remember forever.
