My third (and probably last) show of the tour and this one was the worst of the three. Well ... kinda. The band was solid. No argument there. They're playing basically the same set these past few shows, likely trying to get things squared away for the important shows coming up in Los Angeles with tons of media and glitz and all that. And it's a good show. I love that "Gloria" seems to be settling in as a regular part of the set list. I liked the visual tweaks that they're still making from night to night.
Problem tonight was the audience. This show was far from a sellout -- seemed like at least five sections in the upper level behind the stage were totally blocked off. Throughout the show, I saw a lot of fans sitting -- far more often than last night's show. During "Staring At The Sun," most of the lower level was sitting in their seats looking around. I saw one guy looking really bored with his chin in his hands. The vibe just wasn't as good tonight as it was last night and even in Tulsa.
The one exception to this was at the end of "Love Is Bigger Than Anything In Its Way" when the crowd was trying to continue the "oh-oh-oh-oh-oh" singalong, and pretty much had it going ... but Bono must not have heard it because he started talking over the audience and introducing the last song. It was that kind of night -- close, but not quite there.
