The highlight for me was Bono, without the sunglasses, singing about his father. Mr. Hewson was a quick-with-a-dig Irish tough guy, much like my own father. My dad died five years ago, but I still wept last night. The Irish. My ten year-old was in the seat next to me.
Was also impressed with Bono singing Pavarotti's part in Miss Sarajevo. When I saw they had played it in Chicago I hoped they wouldn't do it here as it never was a favorite. I was wrong. Bono's explanation of the origin of the song changed my mindset, and then they delivered. Another high point.
But my biggest impression is how spiritual it all was. Life is beautiful. Kiss your mate. God is your senior partner. Last night was a celebration of life, of love, of sex, of caring for the least among us, of the imperative to find joy every day in the 40 or so years I have left. Thank you. My son and I had a fantastic time.
