Wow. I've seen all six Boston Vertigo shows so far this year (May, Oct., Dec.), and while all were great or close to it, this one might well be the topper. And I decided that after Bad, even before the third (yes, third) encore.
Bono was absolutely on fire tonight, seeming to gain an unquenchable energy from the delirious crowd as the night went on, until he literally had to be shut down by his own band (he tries to talk the Edge into doing yet one more as Fast Cars winds down; the Edge, incredulous, shakes his head and mouths "Too much!"). Bono earlier gave heartfelt props to the the wildly enthusiastic Boston audience: "This is a U2 town!" (the ultimate one, if you ask me). From then on he was utterly determined to make it a banner night. Which he did - in spades. Can't wait for tomorrow.
