I've been attending U2 shows since Zoo TV (fan before that, but at 11 years old couldn't go to many shows).
Shows I've been to:
Achtung Tour in Providence, 1992
Zoo TV Tour in Foxboro 1992
Skipped Pop Mart (phew)
Elevation Tour in FleetCenter (MA), 2002
and now TD BankNorthCenter Garden Fleet SuperTerrific Happy Hour, 2004.
I was able to get Suite tickets for $140.00 3 days before the show. Needless to say, seat location can play a major role in enjoyment of the show. I had Fan Club seats for Elevation and boy did they stink. I was a member of Propaganda since 1991, and this is the first time I didn't go with fan club seats. No big deal, actually even better than the real thing :).
Anyway, I digress. This show was easily in the top 2. (Zoo TV at Foxboro was the best all-around, IMHO). For the elevation tour, I attended the show which Edge threw his guitar away (the show on the Boston DVD that they practiced the recording on, which Edge said the crowd as well as the band sucked. I second that).
Okay back to 10/4/2005. The crowd was on fire and so was Bono. I believe it was the first time I've heard Electric Co. For those complaining about politics...you know that goes with the territory. It's like complaining about Fox news being so to the right. Duh!
Anyway, The Ocean, 40, Electric Co..just a great set. I don't think I've heard a crowd so deafening -- and I mean that in a good way.
Highlights:
Miss Sarajevo -- Bono's voice was in excellent shape.
40 - First time I heard it live and thankful it wasn't dropped
City of Blinding Lights, Crumbs from your Table...just great.
Lowlights:
Remember how Bono says "I'm so sick of it" on Sunday Bloody Sunday on Under a Blood Red Sky? Well, I'm sick of it too. If there's anything I could change, it's dropping the Joshua/War medley for some other songs. Frankly, I don't care what the other songs are at this point, just that they aren't Streets/Still Haven't Found/With Or Without You and Sunday. I realize these are the 'hits' that everyone knows and I like the songs in moderation but man, I'm so sick of em.
Why can't the band ever play Ultra Violet? I am DYING to hear that song live. DYING. Never ever heard it live. Why not?
Anyway, after the Elevation tour I resigned myself that I wasn't going to a U2 show again. The $170, the show was awful and the seats sucked especially for a fan club seats.
The Propaganda online fiasco made me not renew again and I was pretty down on the band. Luckily I was offered some great suite seats for the show and just loved it.
I hope I'll be lucky for December to see them again. part of me wants to remember them just like this night....part of me hopes Ultra Violet will happen next time :).
