2nd show in two days, and after lining up in the extremely hot sun all day, we were in the second row in the D section, right in front of where the Edge was playing! It was very exciting. The crowd seemed much more pumped up than on Friday night and even seemed to be getting into Kanye West (well the people around me were!).
After Kanye finished it seemed like Dallas (Edge's guitar tech) was having some technical problems with Edge's effects pedal but that didn't seem to bother the crowd which kept itself entertained with an awesome Mexican wave that must have gone round the stadium about 5 times! I was really impressed when I saw Sam O'Sullivan (Larry's drum tech) ask the father of a very cute little 5 year old girl dressed up in a bright green cowboy hat if he would like ear plugs for her. It really highlighted to me that these people seem to really care about their audience.
The first three songs of the show really went-off and there seemed to be this amazing energy in the crowd.
The highlights for me were "I Still Haven't Found", Bono's intro brought tears to my eyes, and his singing of Pavarotti's part in Miss Sarejvo, he really hit the high notes so well. Bono also noticed the little girl in the green cowboy hat during one of his trips down to the b-stage and her face after he reached out to say "Hi" to her was just beautiful.
I also loved being up close and being able to see all the little expressions that went on during the performance. It was funny to watch Edge crack a small smile when Bono transposed some of the lyrics in Sometimes. Desire was also awesome, even though it was seemed to be put together on the spot!
There did seem to be some sound problems though, in With or Without You Edge's guitar had seemed to have this high-pitched feedback happening which seemed to put Bono off and whoever the idiot was that tried to hold on to the Kite at the end of the concert should never be allowed back into a U2 concert again.
I love the didgeridoo in Kite, it really adds another level to the song and makes it so much more mystical and beautiful.
So all up I thought this was a wonderful wonderful concert, and I want to thank U2 so much for making the trip to Australia to perform for us. It was very definitely worth the wait!
