After being a huge fan for about 10 years, this was my first U2 concert ever. I think I had hyped this moment up in my head for so many years that the actual event wouldn't live up to expectations. But I was wrong.
Me and 3 friends flew over from Perth on Thursday night and stayed in the city centre. We took the train to Telstra Stadium late Saturday morning and arrived in line by 1pm. The whole experience was surreal for me; I couldn't comprehend the fact that Bono and Co. were actually inside the stadium that I was standing next to. It was a bizare feeling. We were in the blazing Sydney sun for a good 4 hours, doing our best to make time pass and not get sunburnt. Finally at 5:30pm the gates opened and we eventually got inside.
I thought we might have been a bit late in our arrival and would end up 10 or 20 metres from stage (which would have been cool) but to my surprise we managed to squeeze into the b-stage area and were less than 5 metres from the little eclipse ramp!!! Unbelievable! We then had to wait again until Kanye came on and did his thing for about 30 minutes, and then the countdown to the big opening started. At 8:45 'Wake Up' came on and everybody released their restlessness and excitement with a roar of cheers and applause. After all these years of loving U2 and buying U2 stuff, they were going to be right there in front of my eyes!! When I saw the sillhouettes of Edge, Larry and Adam, I definitely got goosebumps. And when Bono suddenly appeared out or nowhere and sprung up right infront of us, it finally sunk in.
The show was fantastic. City of Blinding Lights was an amazing opening song and the lights and sound were beautiful. It was great to be able to see Larry and Adam close up as well, but unfortunatley Edge never wandered over to our side, so I had to stand on my toes to get a good veiw of him during the concert. Other highlights for me were Vertigo, Love and Peave or Else (bono drumming is the best), Pride, Streets, Miss Sarajevo, Zoo Station and One.
Overall, this was easily the best experience of my life. My dream had come true, and when it ended I didn't feel sad. I know that these memories will stay with me forever. Thanks U2, you quite simply, rock my world.
