I was a tour virgin and am glad to be deflowered. My girlfriend succumbed to the power of the ticket broker and paid a lot of money to have this experience. The anticipation nearly drove me insane for months.
A previous post mentioned that if you go in with an open mind, that you'll enjoy the concert. I went in with an open mind and enjoyed the concert, but my standards may have been too high.
I can't put my finger on it, but either the crowd was off or Bono was off. While I spent the whole night jumping up and down, many around me hardly tapped a foot. Maybe I just watched the Slane and Boston DVD's too many times and got a jaded view of the energy (yeah, I know some of those DVDs were more than one concert).
Still, it was the greatest concert I've ever been to. My girlfriend at times (jokingly, I hope) says that I can be an emotional droid. But this droid was almost brought to tears by Bad and 40. You don't have to be religious, you don't have to be spiritual to have been moved by such inspirational songs. And, the Achtung Trilogy was worth the price of admission that my girlfriend paid for me. A lot of people will disagree with me, but I think the FLY is one of the best songs, melodically, they've ever done. Last night's version was 'even better than the real thing.'
Was the show perfection? No. But it was the best thing I've ever witnessed in my life. Not bad for what my girlfriend paid for the tickets.
